Transurecthal prostatectomy


Endoscopic removal of the innermost portion of the prostate via the urethral route. It aims to solve the obstacle caused by the prostate to empty the bladder. It is the most common intervention in the case of symptomatic prostatic hypertrophy (see BPH) or prostatic neoplasia which prevents bladder emptying. Side effects of the surgery can be mild urinary disorders and retrograde ejaculation. (see TURP).
